Have you ever wondered what the difference is between live resin and live rosin?
Me too. So I did a little research.
For starters, they both start with fresh-frozen cannabis.
Live resin uses hydrocarbon extraction.
Live rosin uses a solventless process.
Let’s break it down.

Live Rosin
People willing to pay more for solventless processing
In my experience, live resin and live rosin can both smell and taste fantastic.
Live resin is usually cheaper.
Live rosin almost always costs more.
Neither one is automatically stronger or better.
Does Solventless Mean Live Rosin Is Cleaner?
Not necessarily.
Live rosin is made without hydrocarbon solvents.
Live resin usually uses butane, propane, or a mix of both.
Those solvents pull the cannabinoids and terpenes from the cannabis.
Then the solvents are purged and recovered during processing.
So, using solvents does not automatically make live resin dirty.
And avoiding them does not automatically make live rosin cleaner.
Either product can be made well.
Either product can also be made like shit.
Is Live Resin or Live Rosin Stronger?
Neither one is automatically stronger.
I’ve had live resin that hit harder than live rosin.
I’ve also had live rosin that knocked me on my ass.
A lot depends on the strain and the cannabinoid content.
If potency is your main concern, check the label.
But don’t assume the product with more THC will get you higher.
Which One Has More Terpenes?
Neither one automatically has more terpenes.
A lot depends on the cannabis genetics and how the concentrate was made.
Storage matters too.
Heat, air, and time can all affect them.
So, the word rosin does not automatically mean more terps.
And the word resin does not mean less.
Check the terpene results when they are available.
But a higher terpene number does not automatically mean you will like the flavor more.
Does Live Rosin Taste Better Than Live Resin?
Sometimes.
Good live rosin can be on another level.
Every time I’ve had good live rosin, the smell has been so good.
Earthy.
Gassy.
Pungent.
One dab can stink up my whole house.
But a great live resin can easily beat average live rosin.
A lot of it depends on the strain and how you smoke it.
Why Is Live Rosin More Expensive?
Live rosin takes a shit ton of work to make.
First, fresh-frozen cannabis is washed in ice water to separate the trichomes.
The collected hash then has to be dried.
After that, it is pressed into rosin.
And after all that work, you hardly get anything back.
Fresh-frozen cannabis may produce only around 2% to 6% of its original weight in live rosin.
Crazy, right?
Do the math.
Out of 100 grams of fresh-frozen cannabis, you might end up with only two grams of live rosin.
That is why the shit is so damn expensive.
Some strains wash better than others, which also affects how much rosin you get back.
Is Live Rosin Worth the Extra Money?
It can be.
Maybe solventless processing matters to you.
Maybe you love the smell, flavor, and texture of good live rosin.
Or maybe you only buy it once in a while, so the extra cost does not bother you.
But I would not pay more just because the package says live rosin.
If you cannot taste much of a difference, live resin is probably the better buy.
That is especially true if you dab all the time and the price difference keeps adding up.
I would rather buy excellent live resin than overpay for average live rosin.
How Do You Compare Live Resin and Live Rosin?
Compare the actual product, not just the label.
Look at the strain.
Check the test results.
Think about the price.
And pay attention to consistency.
Personally, I smoke a lot of Green Dot Labs.
Their shit is fire.
I’ve tried plenty of other concentrates, but they have been the most consistent for me.
That matters more than whether the package says live resin or live rosin.
Live Resin vs. Live Rosin Carts
When it comes to carts, there are a few other differences to think about.
Smell.
Hardware.
And price.
Live resin carts can stink, but live rosin carts usually smell even more stanky.
Sometimes you don’t even have to hit the pen.
Just leaving it in the room can stink up the whole place.
So, if you’re trying to be discreet, keep that in mind.
The hardware matters too.
A good extract can still taste like shit if the cart clogs, leaks, or burns too hot.
Live resin carts usually come in full grams.
A lot of live rosin carts are only half a gram.
And they usually cost more.
Where to Buy
You can find both at Cannasseur, right here in Pueblo West, Colorado.
You can also search Google Maps for more dispensaries nearby.
Live Resin vs. Live Rosin: The Final Verdict
Live resin is usually the better value, especially if you’re a dab head.
Live rosin is more like fine wine.
It may not get you any higher.
But when it is done right, the smell and flavor can be incredible.
Not every gram of live rosin deserves the higher price.
But I understand exactly why people pay extra for the good stuff.
